Why You Should Never, Ever Use Emojis In Work Emails

If you've ever considered lightening up a work email by adding an emoji, don't do it. According to a new study, people who include emojis in their professional emails are seen as incompetent.

Researchers in Israel had participants read a work-related email from an unknown person and rated the writer on their competence and warmth. All the participants saw one of two versions of the same letter, either with emojis or without.

The results showed that not only did the smiley faces have zero affect on warmth, but it also made the person who wrote the letter seem less competent.

Another interesting result the scientists found was that when people had to reply to the email, the responses to letters without emojis were more detailed.

So quit it with the emojis in work emails, especially if you are writing to someone you don't know.
